Component maker at the SRCS Rehabilitation Program, hereafter referred to as the component maker is guided by the Red Crescent & Red Cross seven Principles (Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity, Universality) and International Humanitarian Law, as well as the SRCS policy and strategy and procedures as established. The component’s employment conditions are established and agreed upon separately.

Overall Job Purpose

The component maker is an employee of the SRCS Rehabilitation Center, Mogadishu. The position is in the Orthopedic Workshop of the SRCS Rehabilitation Center, which is part of the SRCS Rehabilitation Program for Disabled in Somalia, which again is a part of the Somali Red Crescent Society.

The component maker is reporting to the Workshop Leader or Section Leader of his/her particular section or to the one at any time in charge of the section. The component works in close collaboration with other sections of the workshop, with the Administrator and other departments of the Center.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The Component maker will collaboration with his/her Section Leader and Workshop Leader perform following duties:

  • Have as his/her main duty to produce crutches and walking frames, fabricate crutch handles, Tips.
  • Plan the daily activities of his/her position
  • Follow the guidelines of the Workshop Leader or P&O and ensure that the time given for his/her activities are kept and deadlines for delivers are met
  • Make sure that the quality of the work piece produced by him/her is the best possible
  • Painting properly crutches and walking frames produced
  • Align, fit, and join parts, using bolts and screws or by welding or gluing.
  • Work with Granulator machine for Polypropylene.
  • Work with oven for heating the polypropylene to shape and molding.
  • Consult and confer with workshop personnel to discuss developmental problems and to recommend product modifications.
  • Rework or alter component model or parts as required to ensure that products meet standards.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.


  1. Collect and maintain day to day date regarding the production of crutches, walking frames, crutch handles and tips of the crutches (Walking aids) and report to workshop leader.
  2. By the end of every week transfer the stock produced to the storekeeper. And 1st of every month prepare production statistics of the last month and give to the give the workshop head.
  3. Report to the workshop leader any problem about equipment machines, if there is need to repair or replace.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Secondary school graduate.
  • Should have relevant experience (experiences in carpentry/garage or mechanics will be added value).
  • High commitment and ability to work under pressure
  • Basic computer skills (Word, excel, power point)
  • Good communication skills in Somali & English language
