ROLE PURPOSE: As a member of the Save the Children Southern States -Kismayo, the health project coordinator will work closely with project teams and the other clinical staff. The Health Project coordinator will be fully based in Kismayo SCI office and will be lead program person for Health projects in Kismayo while supporting the project manager in any assigned health roles in Jubbaland State.

Working with the Finance, Admin Officer, Logistics team, Field Manager, Health facilities staff, Ministry of Health and other stakeholders as appropriate

Dimensions: Save the Children has been working in Somalia for more than 60 years. The Country Office has over 550 staff across 14 field offices (Boroma, Burao and Hargeisa in Somaliland; Bosasso, Gnarowe, Galkayo and Gardo in Puntland; Beletweyne, Adaado, Abudwak, Baidoa, Kismayo, Dhobley and Mogadishu in Central South Somalia). Our Country Office coordination and administration base is in Nairobi, Kenya. In 2018, we reached more than 2.5 million people through our humanitarian and longer term development work in Health, Nutrition, Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH), Education, Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL), Child Protection and Child Rights Governance. The Country Office manages 65 active awards totalling US$165 million from a range of governmental/institutional donors, including DFID, ECHO, EU, FFP, OFDA, and DANIDA being some of our largest.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Degree in Nursing, Medicine, or Public Health from an accredited University. Master's in Public Health will be an added advantage. Registration with the relevant health bodies is crucial.
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience in both emergency and developmental health program set up.
  • Willing to travel and live in difficult and remote areas.
  • A mature person of high professional discipline and moral integrity,
  • Fluency in English and Somali languages.
  • Previous experience within a humanitarian organization, in particular working in primary health care programs, CEMONC programs, MISP and strong community health skills.
  • Competent to work under stress as the situation may dictate.
  • Ability to work with displaced communities with diverse cultural and ethnic background.

Desirable

  • Experience in Jubbaland state will be an asset.
  • In-depth clinical experience especially around clinical supervision/ mentoring, RH, public and or community health.
  • Experience in managing emergency health interventions with international NGOs/UN.
  • Knowledge and experience in Child Right Programming approach
  • Knowledge of the Somalia health system
  • Computer skills e.g. Word, Power Point and Excel.
  • Experience in clinical facilitation of trainings like IMCI, EMONC, MISP, will be an advantage.
